Authors examined workforce education and training needs for jobs in the Energy Efficiency Services Sector (EESS), focusing on jobs required to improve the efficiency of residential and non-residential buildings. The report contains an overview of the sector and methods for assessing EESS education and training programs, profiles of current workforce development efforts, and a discussion of trends for meeting demand for energy efficiency education and training programs. Major Findings and Recommendations
The authors recommended six actions:
• “Provide energy efficiency education and support targeted at building and construction contracting and tradespeople” (p. xvi).
• “Coordinate and track training efforts within states; share best practices across states” (p. xvii).
• “Increase short-duration, applied trainings to augment on-the-job training and/or introduce new entrants to a field” (p. xvii).
• “Increase funding to ‘train the trainer’” (p. xvii).
• “Increase access to on-the-job training for mid- and senior-level engineers and managers” (p. xviii).
