STEM Pathways Redesign Readiness Assessment

About

Provides a two-step readiness assessment tool for college administrators to gauge an evidence-based approach to measure connections, entry, progress, and completion of pathways for students in middle-skills STEM programs that lead to employment.

This readiness assessment tool is geared for colleges seeking to strengthen their middle-skill STEM pathways. Colleges are encouraged to complete this survey in a group with key stakeholders (e.g., faculty, administrators, et cetera). The first section of the assessment includes 35 questions where stakeholders rate themselves on a scale from 1 (not present) to 5 (advanced) and identify priority areas to build or strengthen structured STEM pathways. The second section lists six open-ended discussion questions meant to guide the discussions among key stakeholders (e.g., community partners, faculty, administrators, etc.) on how to improve STEM pathways based on their own assessment.

For example, one of the open-ended questions is: “How would you ensure that the proposed STEM redesign efforts impact a significant portion of your student populations? Which STEM programs will you target for redesign, and when?” (p.6).

Major Findings and Recommendations

When colleges use this tool, they should be able to collaboratively to measure existing connections, entry, progress, and completion of pathways for students in middle-skills STEM pathways using a weighted approach from not present to advanced. This tool can also serve as a baseline for colleges. (Abstractor: Website Staff)
